Liz is here! Just in time to force her into my 365 project, haha! I used to live with her back in ye olde London town, and haven't seen her since what seems like forever ago. So here we are, slightly confused and mostly tired, just like old times. Hurrah.

2011-365-363: Global village

I was waiting for the streetcar downtown today, across from this backpacker's hotel. This was the first place I ever stayed the first time I came to Toronto, way back in 2004. (It wasn't really a super great hostel, but that's beside the point.) It's hard to believe it's been that long! The city seemed so huge and overwhelming to me back then - I remember hauling myself and my backpack over from the subway.. that's so ludicrous! Haha, foolish past-Nicole. Anyhow, it's strange standing across the street from this place now, having made this city my home instead of a stopping point.

We've got a PS3 on loan at the moment, and I gave Uncharted a whirl this evening. I like the theme of it, and the gameplay is fairly similar to Red Dead Redemption (certain tasks, the shooting, atmosphere, etc), which I've enjoyed recently also. Will it be enough to make me want a PS3? Time will tell. In the meantime I've got to shoot some dudes, hang from ledges and loot stuff!

I can't remember the last time my. Google reader was down below 1000+ unread items. I have gotten a bit discouraged that their sharing mechanism has changed, and I guess I feel like I'd spend more time on there if it hadn't changed. Also, it's rare I get times like tonight to just laze and scroll through. I ought to really use it to collect stuff to post links in blog entries like I used to! Back to scrolling..

Lots of game playing this weekend. Some great rounds of quick new faves like Geistes Blitz and Cockroach Poker, and we tried out Alien Frontiers too, which was great. But I think the most fun was playing this home crafted game called Dino Escape, which our friend JP made. I included a couple of snaps today so you can marvel in the glory of the Dino markers and spaceships! Awesome fun.

Saw "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" this evening. So very well cast, but it drags terribly and could have done with some more peaks of action. I know, I know, the Cold War wasn't exactly action.. But this movie was pretty middle of the road and needed *something*. Oh, the cast though.

2011-365-355: A holiday leftover meal before the holiday

When I was in Winnipeg during the summer, I tried Boon Burger's terrific "Thanksgiving" burger, with all the flavours and suchlike of this time of year. I love themed food like that, in a form you sort of least expect it in. So when I tried the "holiday leftovers" burrito at Hot Beans today, I was excited to find it was as awesome as expected. A bit of soy "turkey", some roasted veg, stuffing, gravy and a cranberry sauce all wrapped up in a tortilla satchel of awesome. HOLIDAYS IN MY MOUTH. Oof. If every day being xmas meant a burrito like that, I think i'd be okay with it. I doubt anything I create pre or post leftovers will match its deliciousness. Check out this hot mess:

Whenever we play games that are anything tougher than a party game, Adam will generally beat me. Usually by a fair amount. But it's especially painful when I get *this* close to winning the whole game of five players and Adam takes it by a point. *shakes fist*

2011-365-352: Cookie monster

I'd never experienced a holiday cookie exchange before moving to North America. The first time I participated in one, I wasn't sure of what it exactly entailed. Not realising you brought along, say, half a dozen cookies for each person participating and in return you get half a dozen from each of then, I just turned up with a tupperware container with small batch of cookies. At least we had something to snack on while we chuckled at my misunderstanding :) This time around I got it so totally right, PLUS everything was vegan and amazing so I came home hopped up on sugar and so happy with my goodies! Mmmm. So many different flavours, shapes and textures - choc chips, oatmeals, thumbprints, shortbread, peanut butter balls, Mexican wedding cookies, oh my! I guess now would be a great time to come visit me for a cup of tea and a cookie.

Snakes is getting all merched up! I couldn't help it, and helped myself to a freshly delivered t-shirt this afternoon. How totally sweet is this? It's all awesomely abstract and stylin'. Many props to our friend Sean, master of getting the design happening and shirts printed!

2011-365-346: Pandemic!

I played Pandemic for the first time tonight, hard to believe seeing as this is one of the games I see people playing at Snakes the most. I quite liked it. I'm generally pretty rubbish at board games, so it's nice to play something cooperative where it doesn't matter how much I suck, as my fellow players are all there to help! Here we are on the board in Atlanta (natch!) ready to start the game of whizzing around the world fighting outbreaks and trying to find cures to save humankind. Exciting stuff! I would like to try the expansion too, as it seems like it could make things even more interesting.

Still enjoying some Bunners treats today - like this gf vegan berry pie! The half of the other half that I enjoyed was pretty delicious, and a treat with a generous helping of vanilla coconut ice cream. And this is why winter makes me fat..
